Violence Risk Assessment
The VRAG is the most commonly-used actuarial violence risk assessment tool in the world. Designed to estimate the likelihood that a male criminal offender or forensic psychiatric patient will commit a new violent or sexual offense, the VRAG produces an estimated recidivism rate for different lengths of follow-up. Replication studies have established the VRAG scheme’s ability to accurately predict violent recidivism in a variety of settings as well as with sex offender populations and non-violent offenders.
Attorneys commonly use this assessment to strengthen Alternative Pre-Sentence Investigations, at revocation hearings, and to support bail arguments.
Each assessment involves the following:
-
In-person interview and assessment with client (at facility of incarceration if in custody)
-
Written summary report of findings
-
Appearance at one (1) hearing or sentencing to provide testimony related to assessment results
