Sex Offense Risk Assessment (STATIC-99)

The Static-99 is a ten item actuarial assessment instrument created by R. Karl Hanson, Ph.D. and David Thornton, Ph.D. for use with adult male sexual offenders who are at least 18 year of age at time of release to the community. In 2012, the age item for the scale was updated, creating Static-99R. Static-99/R is the most widely used sex offender risk assessment instrument in the world, and is extensively used in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and many European nations. 

Attorneys commmonly use this assessment to strengthen Alternative Pre-Sentence Investigations and support sentncing arguments.

Each assessment involves the following:

  • In-person interview and assessment with client (at facility of incarceration if in custody)

  • Written summary report of findings

  • Appearance at one (1) hearing or sentencing to provide testimony related to assessment results
